The Mass Effect titles have excellent soundtracks, but this is one of the obscure surprises in the series’ musical library. It succeeds in capturing a sense of heartfelt wonder and reuniting with something beloved. This piece is masterfully paced, with a perfect buildup leading up to the majestic explosion of trumpets and violins. After reuniting with Joker, the ship’s pilot, Shepard is led to a docking bay where he witnesses the beautiful unveiling of the Normandy-SR2, the second version of the ship. After Shepard witnessed the destruction of his ship, the Normandy, in the game’s opening, he was rescued by Cerberus and ‘rebuilt’ during a period of a few years. The track is titled “Normandy Reborn “ and was composed by Jack Wall. Today’s track from Mass Effect 2 celebrates exactly that feeling. It’s always great seeing an old friend return, even is that friend is a formidable spaceship that you and your crew have served on and relied on for assault and light-speed transportation.
